The Garmin inReach® Messenger Plus in the SOS Satellite Communicator with Photo & Voice Messaging configuration is built for adventurers who want to stay in touch beyond cellular range. With an active inReach subscription, it supports exchanging text, photo, and voice messages when off-grid, helping keep friends and family connected to the experience.
It also adds confidence for remote travel with Interactive SOS, sending your GPS coordinates to Garmin Response℠, a 24/7-staffed international coordination center. A sunlight-readable monochrome display helps confirm sent messages and view replies directly on the device, and the compact, impact-resistant, IPX7 water-rated design is made to operate in extreme temperatures.
Capture the moment and send it from beyond cellular range. inReach® Messenger Plus supports photo messaging with an active inReach subscription, and it requires pairing with the Garmin Messenger™ app on a compatible smartphone for exchanging photos when there’s no cell service.
When typing is not ideal, inReach® Messenger Plus can send voice messages up to 30 seconds with an active inReach subscription. Voice messaging requires pairing with the Garmin Messenger™ app on a compatible smartphone, helping keep communication personal when cell coverage is unavailable.
For emergencies, the device can send an interactive SOS message with GPS coordinates to Garmin Response℠, a 24/7-staffed international coordination center. Messages are sent over the 100% global Iridium® satellite network, rather than relying on tower-based cellphone coverage.
Connectivity
inReach® Messenger Plus supports two-way text messaging, including messages up to 1,600 characters directly on the device with an active inReach subscription. Paired with the Garmin Messenger™ app on a compatible smartphone, it can also support emojis and reactions and help start a group chat. The on-device display is designed to confirm when messages have been sent and to read responses even when a phone battery dies.
Navigation
When paired with the Garmin Explore™ app on a compatible smartphone, inReach® Messenger Plus can support trip planning, viewing tracks on a map, saving an activity, and seeing a course highlight that shows how much farther remains to a destination. Mapping and navigation functions listed for the device, including point-to-point navigation, waypoints, and courses, are provided via the Garmin Explore app.
Durability
Designed for the backcountry, inReach® Messenger Plus is compact and built to operate in extreme temperatures, with an impact-resistant housing and an IPX7 water rating. A rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery provides detailed runtime estimates depending on messaging mode and intervals, including up to 1 year when powered off; battery life estimates assume full sky view and can be significantly impacted by obstructions or tree cover. Charging is via USB-C.
