The Garmin Approach® J1 in the Cloud Blue Aluminum Bezel with Black/Azure ComfortFit Fabric Band is a slim, lightweight GPS golf watch designed specifically for junior golfers. Its simplified interface keeps the focus on core on-course information, helping young players learn faster and play with more confidence.
With more than 43,000 preloaded courses worldwide, Approach J1 supports everyday rounds and practice alike. It includes tee-off guidance that adapts to the golfer, scoring on the watch, and learning-focused tools such as personal par and a pace-of-play visual timer. Off the course, it also functions as a smartwatch with up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 15 hours in GPS mode (using default display settings: gesture wake-up in Smartwatch mode and always-on while golfing).
Design
Built with a slim, lightweight profile, Approach J1 is made to stay secure and comfortable through a full round. The elastic fabric hook and loop band is designed to fit without getting in the way of the swing, while the anodized aluminum bezel and chemically strengthened glass help support daily wear.
Navigation
Tee-off guidance uses forward tee locations down the fairway on more than 43,000 golf courses, scaling each hole to the golfer’s ability. On the course, the watch also provides key distances, including yardage to front, middle and back of the green plus yardage to layups and doglegs.
Training
Approach J1 includes learning-focused tools that help build confidence over time. A visual pace-of-play timer helps keep the round moving at the recommended pace, and personal par can be adjusted to match the golfer’s skill. On-watch celebrations add encouragement as improvement happens.
Approach J1 is designed to start with the essentials and build from there. Its customizable experience allows learning-focused features to be turned off as the golfer advances, while keeping core golf functions available. The watch supports digital scorekeeping on the wrist and tracks key stats such as strokes, putts per round, and greens and fairways hit to help juniors understand their game as they develop.
With more than 43,000 courses preloaded worldwide, Approach J1 is ready for travel, lessons, and local rounds. Golf features include Green View with manual pin position, hazards and course targets, round timer/odometer, and Auto CourseView updates. It also measures shot distance to calculate exact yardage for shots from anywhere on the course, supporting better decisions from tee to green.
A bright AMOLED (optional always-on mode) display and touchscreen help keep interactions quick and simple during play. For daily use, the watch includes common clock functions such as alarms, timers, and sunrise/sunset times. The 5 ATM water rating supports playing in changing conditions, while built-in sensors include GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, and an ambient light sensor.
