The Garmin GPSMAP® 86sci in the Marine Handheld With BlueChart® g3 Coastal Charts and inReach® Capabilities configuration is built for boaters who want confident navigation and reliable communication options in a handheld form.
With preloaded BlueChart® g3 coastal charts and marine-focused features, it can also connect wirelessly to compatible onboard Garmin systems for at-a-glance boat data. When venturing farther, inReach® capabilities add two-way messaging, tracking and interactive SOS through the Iridium® satellite network, helping keep crews connected beyond cellular range. A water-resistant design that floats, plus a transflective color display, make it well suited for use on deck, in the cockpit or as a dedicated backup navigator.
Navigation
BlueChart® g3 coastal charts come preloaded to deliver detailed coastal coverage using integrated Garmin and Navionics® data. With mapping ready to go, the GPSMAP® 86sci supports on-the-water route planning and situational awareness without requiring a separate chart source.
Connectivity
Using the Iridium® satellite network, the GPSMAP® 86sci supports two-way messaging with custom and preset texts or emails, plus delivery confirmation. It also supports interactive SOS messaging to the Garmin IERCC, a 24/7 staffed emergency response coordination center, via the 100% global Iridium satellite network.
Display
When paired with compatible Garmin chartplotters and instruments, the handheld can display real-time boat data directly on screen. It also supports convenient remote control of select onboard Fusion marine products, bringing key system information and controls into one portable device.
Durability
Built for life on the water, the GPSMAP® 86sci is water-resistant to IPX7 and is designed to float. It meets MIL-STD-810 (thermal, shock, water), and it uses chemically strengthened glass over a transflective, 65K color TFT display with 240 x 400 pixels for clear viewing in changing light on deck.
Navigation
For more consistent guidance while underway, the GPSMAP® 86sci includes an adjustable GPS filter that helps smooth speed and heading indications as conditions change over swells. This marine-focused approach supports clearer tracking feedback when the boat is moving, helping keep navigation information easier to interpret at a glance.
Connectivity
A rechargeable, internal lithium-ion battery supports up to 35 hours at 10-minute tracking and up to 200 hours at 30-minute tracking (power save mode). Connectivity options include Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, and ANT+®, and the unit supports high speed microUSB and NMEA 0183 compatible interfacing for flexible onboard integration and updates.
