The Garmin Instinct 3 – 50 mm, Solar, Tactical Edition in Black with Black Band is a rugged GPS smartwatch designed for demanding outdoor use and mission-focused training. Solar charging supports extended wear, while the metal-reinforced bezel and fiber-reinforced polymer construction are built for tough conditions.
This Tactical Edition adds dedicated features such as stealth mode, kill switch, Jumpmaster mode, waypoint projection, and a rucking activity profile that lets pack weight be entered. It also supports detailed health and wellness tracking, multi-band GPS with SatIQ™ technology, ABC sensors, and a bright built-in LED flashlight for added visibility when conditions change.
Solar charging supports Up to 40 days/unlimited with solar* in smartwatch mode, helping extend time between charges for long trips and daily wear. Multiple GPS power options are also supported, with solar assumptions noted in the specifications below for a clear picture of expected performance in different usage modes.
Purpose-built tactical tools include stealth mode to stop storing and sharing GPS position while disabling wireless connectivity and communication, plus a kill switch that wipes the device of all user memory. It also includes Jumpmaster mode, waypoint projection, dual grid coordinates, a stage timer, and a dedicated Tactical activity.
A built-in LED flashlight adds practical illumination without extra gear. Variable intensities and strobe modes provide options for different conditions, helping improve visibility outdoors and offering convenient light when hands-free access matters.
Navigation
For confident positioning and direction-finding, Instinct 3 – Tactical Edition combines multi-band GPS with SatIQ™ technology alongside ABC sensors. Navigation and situational awareness are supported by an altimeter, barometer, and 3-axis electronic compass, plus outdoor navigation features such as point-to-point navigation, a bread crumb trail in real time, Back to start, and TracBack®. These tools are designed to help maintain awareness and guidance on unfamiliar routes.
Durability
This 50 mm watch is engineered with a fiber-reinforced polymer case and a metal-reinforced bezel, and it is 10 ATM water-rated. It is tested to U.S. military standards for thermal, shock and water resistance, supporting use in demanding environments. The monochrome, sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display is paired with Power Glass™ lens material, built to suit outdoor readability and daily wear.
Health
Instinct 3 – Tactical Edition provides health monitoring features that help build awareness of daily patterns and recovery. It includes wrist-based heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring, Pulse Ox, stress tracking, HRV status while sleeping, respiration, hydration tracking in Garmin Connect™ and an optional Connect IQ™ widget, and Health Snapshot for logging a 2-minute session and generating a report to share. These features are intended for wellness and fitness insight rather than medical diagnosis.
