Garmin · Luxury Smartwatches
The Garmin MARQ® Athlete (Gen 2) Modern Tool Watch is a GPS smartwatch designed for athletes who want advanced training insight, onboard mapping, and premium materials in a refined, sport-focused build. It pairs an AMOLED (always-on) touchscreen with a Grade 5 titanium case and bezel, plus a domed sapphire crystal lens and a lightweight silicone rubber strap.
Built to support structured training and everyday wear, it delivers wrist-based performance data, readiness and recovery tools, and a wide range of activity profiles. Battery options help match the watch to different routines, from daily smartwatch use to GPS tracking and music playback (see the specifications below for mode-by-mode details).
Training
For runners who want deeper form and efficiency insight without extra gear, the watch tracks key wrist-based running dynamics such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time and more. It also supports wrist-based running power, helping athletes manage effort on the road or trail and fine-tune training from one session to the next.
Durability
The Modern Tool Watch configuration combines a 46 mm Grade 5 titanium case with a black DLC bezel for a sport-forward finish. A domed sapphire crystal lens protects the AMOLED (always-on) touchscreen, while the silicone rubber strap is designed for comfort during training and everyday wear, with QuickFit® watch band compatible sizing of yes (22 mm).
Audio
Daily convenience stays close at hand with smart notifications when paired with a compatible smartphone. The watch also supports Garmin Pay™ contactless payments through participating providers and can store music by downloading songs and playlists from Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music or YouTube® Music accounts for phone-free listening (subscription may be required).
Training
Training tools are built to help athletes decide when to push and when to recover. Training readiness uses factors including sleep quality, recovery and training load to generate a readiness score, while training status uses indicators such as HRV status and recent exercise history to provide insight into overall effort. A race widget adds training tips, personalized daily suggested workouts and completion time predictions based on course details, weather and performance when preparing for an upcoming event.
Navigation
For exploration and structured routes, the watch includes built-in mapping and navigation tools. Preloaded TopoActive maps support trail awareness with NextFork™ navigation and glanceable guidance, while turn-by-turn navigation helps follow a course and anticipate upcoming turns. Navigation is supported by multi-band GNSS with SatIQ™ technology along with ABC sensors, including an altimeter for elevation data, barometer and a 3-axis electronic compass. Additional maps can be downloaded via Wi-Fi® connectivity.
Battery
Battery performance is designed to keep pace with training plans and travel. In smartwatch mode, battery life is listed as Up to 16 days (6 days always-on), and Battery Saver Watch Mode is Up to 21 days. GPS options scale based on how the watch is used, including GPS Only: Up to 42 hours (30 hours always-on) and All Satellite Systems + Music: Up to 10 hours (9 hours always-on). Charging is handled with a Garmin proprietary magnetic charger.
