RF-1400 Capriccio Full-Face Performance Focus

The SHOEI RF-1400 Capriccio is a full-face motorcycle helmet built around a streamlined shell shape with attention to aerodynamics, ventilation, and reduced wind noise. Designed for riders who split time between street riding and touring (see the riding-style ratings on the page), it pairs the RF-1400 platform’s compact form with the Capriccio graphic in multiple colorways.

Key elements include the Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell, a Dual Density EPS liner with 3D Max-Dry System II, and the CWR-F2 shield system. The RF-1400 Capriccio is Snell M2025D and DOT-218 Approved, and it includes a Pinlock® Evo Lens, Breath Guard, and Chin Curtain for a ready-to-ride setup.

Construction

Shell and liner design

The RF-1400 is built with a Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell and a Dual Density EPS liner. It also incorporates SHOEI’s Emergency Quick Release System (E.Q.R.S.) as part of the helmet’s safety-focused design features. For quick spec checks, the listed weight is 3.64 pounds.

Shield

CWR-F2 shield system

This helmet uses the CWR-F2 shield, designed with a 2D flat outer surface and a 3D inner surface for optimized visibility. Vortex Generators on the sides of the shield are intended to improve aerodynamics and reduce wind noise, while the center locking mechanism helps distribute forces across both spring-loaded base plates.

Ventilation

Ventilation, noise, and fit

Wind-tunnel development guided changes to airflow management, including a relocated center/forehead vent with an additional intake hole and an enlarged rear exhaust outlet to aid hot-air expulsion. Aerodynamic shaping and Vortex Generators work with design details like airtight window beading, along with voluminous cheek pads and removable ear pads to help suppress internal noise.

Ventilation

Wind-tunnel tuned ventilation

To balance cooling airflow with a quieter ride, SHOEI designers used in-house wind tunnel development to refine the RF-1400’s venting. The center/forehead vent was repositioned and equipped with an additional intake hole to help increase the volume of cooling air entering the helmet. At the rear, a new enlarged exhaust outlet vent is designed to better use negative pressure suction behind the helmet to improve hot-air expulsion.

SHOEI RF-1400 Capriccio – Aerodynamics that manage noise

Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics that manage noise

The RF-1400’s shell is shaped to move efficiently through the air, and that aerodynamic focus also supports wind-noise management. SHOEI notes that the design aims to reduce wind noise without blocking informative road sounds. Elements such as Vortex Generators and a windproof seal created by airtight window beading are part of the overall approach to reducing turbulence and unwanted noise around the helmet.

SHOEI RF-1400 Capriccio – Interior comfort details

Comfort

Interior comfort details

Comfort on the RF-1400 platform comes from interior components shaped to support a secure, plush fit. Newly designed cheek pads add more volume at the bottom, which SHOEI also links to reduced wind noise. The lower cheek pad fabric is described as soft yet durable, supporting long-ride comfort for riders using the helmet primarily for street riding and touring.
