RF-1400 Gleam Full-Face for Street Riding

The SHOEI RF-1400 Gleam is a full-face motorcycle helmet built on the RF-1400 platform, finished in Gleam TC-5. Designed with street riding in mind (see the riding-style ratings on the page), it blends a compact, aerodynamic shape with features aimed at managing wind noise and maintaining stable airflow at speed.

Key construction and comfort elements include SHOEI’s Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell, a Dual Density EPS liner, and a 3D Max-Dry System II interior. The helmet uses a CWR-F2 shield system and includes a Pinlock® Evo Lens, plus a Breath Guard and Chin Curtain to help tune the ride experience. Reference the specifications below for listed weight and other details.

Construction

AIM+ shell and EPS liner

The RF-1400 is built with a Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell and a proprietary Dual-Layer/Multi-Density EPS liner design. It also features the Emergency Quick Release System (E.Q.R.S.), a safety-focused design detail intended to support helmet removal when needed. Certification is listed as Snell M2025D and DOT-218 Approved.

Shield

CWR-F2 shield design

A CWR-F2 shield system is used on the RF-1400. SHOEI pairs a 2D flat outer shield surface with 3D shaping on the inside to support a more natural view, while vortex generators on the shield sides are designed to improve aerodynamics and reduce wind noise. A center locking mechanism helps distribute forces across both spring-loaded base plates.

Comfort

Interior comfort and noise focus

The RF-1400’s comfort package includes newly designed cheek pads with added volume at the bottom, intended to improve comfort while also helping manage wind noise. The lower cheek pad fabric is described as soft yet durable for a plush feel. For additional tuning, the helmet includes both a Breath Guard and a Chin Curtain.

Ventilation

Ventilation tuned in a wind tunnel

Vent placement and airflow were developed using SHOEI’s in-house wind tunnel work to balance cooling air and quiet. On the RF-1400, the center/forehead vent was relocated and updated with an additional intake hole to help increase the volume of cooling air entering the helmet. An enlarged rear exhaust outlet is designed to take advantage of negative pressure at the back of the helmet to improve hot-air expulsion.

SHOEI RF-1400 Gleam – Aerodynamics and wind-noise control

Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics and wind-noise control

Shell aerodynamics play a central role in how the RF-1400 manages airflow at speed. SHOEI notes that the helmet’s aerodynamic shape helps it move cleanly through the air while contributing to reduced wind noise, without shutting out the informative sounds riders rely on. This approach is reinforced by features such as Vortex Generators, designed to reduce turbulence and support a calmer ride environment.

Beyond the shell shape, the RF-1400 incorporates multiple design choices aimed at controlling wind noise. SHOEI calls out Vortex Generators that help reduce turbulence, airtight window beading intended to create a windproof seal, and voluminous cheek pads plus removable ear pads designed to suppress internal noise. The goal is a quieter ride experience while still allowing essential road sounds through.
