The SHOEI RF-1400 RX-78-02 Gundam is a full-face motorcycle helmet finished in the RX-78-02 Gundam graphic in Gundam TC-10. Built on the RF-1400 platform, it’s aimed at street riding with strong ratings for street, touring, and race use.
This model combines a Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell with a Dual Density EPS liner and SHOEI’s 3D Max-Dry System II comfort liner. A CWR-F2 shield system, wind-tunnel-developed ventilation, and aerodynamic shaping are designed to balance airflow, stability, and wind noise management. Included in the box are a Pinlock® Evo Lens, Breath Guard, and Chin Curtain.
Construction
The RF-1400 uses SHOEI’s Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell paired with a proprietary Dual-Layer/Multi-Density EPS liner. It also incorporates the Emergency Quick Release System (E.Q.R.S.) as part of the helmet’s safety-focused design elements. Certification is listed as Snell M2025D and DOT-218 Approved.
Shield
A CWR-F2 shield is specified for the RF-1400. The shield design pairs a 2D flat outer surface with 3D shaping on the inside to support a more natural view. Vortex Generators on the shield sides are designed to aid aerodynamics and help reduce wind noise, and a center locking mechanism helps distribute shield forces across spring-loaded base plates.
Comfort
Inside, the helmet uses a 3D Max-Dry System II liner and newly designed cheek pads that add more volume at the bottom. SHOEI pairs that shape with a soft yet durable lower cheek pad fabric for a plush fit and feel, while also working to reduce wind noise. A Breath Guard and Chin Curtain are included.
Ventilation
Ventilation on the RF-1400 was developed with input from SHOEI’s in-house wind tunnel to target a balance of cooling air and reduced noise. The center/forehead vent was relocated and equipped with an additional air intake hole to help increase the volume of air entering the helmet. At the rear, an enlarged exhaust outlet is designed to better use negative pressure suction to help pull hot air out.
Aerodynamics
The RF-1400’s shell aerodynamics are designed to help it move through the air while contributing to lower wind noise without blocking important road sounds. SHOEI also uses Vortex Generators to reduce turbulence, along with airtight window beading intended to create a windproof seal. Voluminous cheek pads and removable ear pads are used to help suppress internal noise while keeping riders aware of their surroundings.
Shield
The RF-1400’s shield system combines a flat 2D outer surface with 3D inner technology to support optimized visibility and a more natural field of view. Vortex Generators on each side of the shield are intended to improve aerodynamics and reduce wind noise. An all-new center locking mechanism is designed to help distribute closing forces evenly across both spring-loaded base plates.
