Garmin · Adventure Watches
The Garmin tactix® 8 – 51 mm, Solar (Includes Applied Ballistics Ultralight™ Solver) is a tactical GPS smartwatch built for demanding training, navigation, and mission-focused use. It pairs a sunlight-visible, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) solar charged display with rugged materials including a titanium bezel and Power Sapphire™ lens.
This configuration adds a preloaded Applied Ballistics Ultralight™ solver for long-range aiming solutions in the field, while also supporting advanced mapping, multi-band GPS with SatIQ™ technology, and broad activity coverage—from rucking and trail running to diving. With an internal speaker and mic for supported voice features plus a 40-meter dive rating, it’s designed for users who want one watch that can transition from daily wear to specialized environments.
Solar charging helps stretch time between charges across multiple modes. Battery life reaches Up to 30 days/48 days with solar* in smartwatch use, and extends further in Battery Saver Watch Mode and GPS modes. Solar assumptions and mode-specific figures are listed in the specifications below.
This configuration comes preloaded with the Applied Ballistics Ultralight™ solver to provide aiming solutions for long-range shooting in the field. For profile and target management, the AB Quantum mobile app can be used on a compatible Apple® or Android™ smartphone.
A built-in multicolor LED flashlight provides quick access to a bright, steady beam in green or white. In NVG mode, white is disabled and the green flashlight becomes dimmable, supporting lower-light operation without changing carry gear.
tactix® 8 is built around a 51 x 51 x 15.4 mm case with a titanium bezel, Power Sapphire™ lens, and a fiber-reinforced polymer case with titanium rear cover. The sunlight-visible display measures 1.4” (35.56 mm) diameter with 280 x 280 pixels. It uses a silicone strap and is QuickFit® watch band compatible (included (26 mm)). It’s tested to U.S. military standards for thermal, shock and water resistance, and carries a water rating of 10 ATM.
Dedicated tactical functionality includes jumpmaster activity, waypoint projection, dual-position GPS format, stealth mode, kill switch, night vision goggles compatibility, and a rucking activity profile that allows pack weight input. Stealth mode keeps the watch operational while stopping storage and sharing of GPS position, and it disables wireless connectivity and communication. NVG mode supports stealthy operation with controls to dim brightness and black out the display to reduce detectability.
For positioning, the watch uses multi-band GPS with SatIQ™ technology and built-in sensors including a 3-axis compass, gyroscope and barometric altimeter. It comes with preloaded TopoActive maps from around the world, with additional maps available via Wi-Fi® connectivity. On supported courses, features such as NextFork™ navigation and Up Ahead improve at-a-glance awareness, while courses with turn-by-turn directions can be created or found in the Garmin Connect™ smart-device app.
With a 40-meter dive rating and a depth sensor (yes (to 40 m)), tactix® 8 supports scuba and apnea dive activities. Dive features include Bühlmann ZHL-16c w/ Gradient Factors decompression model support, gas mixes of Air, Nitrox (21-40% Oxygen), and a 3-axis dive compass with adjustable heading and direction back to set heading. It can automatically save dive entry and exit locations and sync the dive log to the Garmin Dive™ Mobile app.
